With Port Elliot plugged into the GPS we head off from Kingston SE (it’s about 300km). We’d spent some time on planning the route to avoid the ferry at Wellington as we weren’t sure of the load limits. However the navigator (me) was distracted on more than one occasion & so we found ourselves barreling down the road to the ferry. Our only reassurance was the semi-trailer in front of us that probably weighed at least twice as much as us. If it floats, we float, was my logic. It went on the trip before us & the ferryman wasn’t inclined to let us both on at once for some reason. We did note the ferry was a bit inclined once the semi-trailer had driven on. Maybe that was it.
We were happy to wait for the next crossing.

We’d initially booked 4 days on a powered site at the Port Elliot Showgrounds but after a couple of days wandering about the area we decided to extend a couple of weeks on an unpowered site away from most of the campers. We figured this is as good a base as any to explore the area (code word for vineyards) before we head off to Kangaroo Island.
So far we’ve had a couple of e-bike rides and covered most of The Encounter Bikeway. It hugs the coast mostly and extends from Goolwa Railway Station to Rosetta Harbour near Victor Harbour

Our “Spot the what was that?” tally so far for our walks/rides is one snake and one Blue Toungue lizard.
We’ve been out of the water for far too long so we managed a dip at Horseshoe Beach. Surprisingly, the water temp was a balmy 20°C

Port Elliot has a constant queue at their Bakery on par with the Crescent Head bakery. They have a classic supply & demand issue. I suspect it’s more to do with slow supply than high demand. It’s bad luck for them as Jayne has retired. Otherwise, with her guidance, they’d have no trouble efficiently pumping out their puff pastries. I’m sure she could earn her weight in baked goods improving on their current slow baked sales process. Regardless, they appeared to have a lot of happy crust crunching customers.

The Tour Down Under is due to pass thru town on the 19th & somebodies have been busy promoting the visit by decorating old bicycles all over town. Jayne has been a bit envious of their crocheting skills.

We had a great wander about the village and ended up having lunch at the pub. Even got to see the steam train go past and give us a blast.

Can’t remember much after that. I think we walked back to camp & had a nanna nap.
Heading into McLaren Vale “area” to sample some of their local product tomorrow.
Love the stories Simon. And the pictures. And the maps.
And it’s even better in real life … or am I supposed to write irl 🤣
Inclined made me laugh. Gem didn’t get it though. She’s not very inclined to humour.
