Broome – School Holidays

Featured Image: Panorama Cable Beach.

School Holidays & all the Broome caravan parks are absolutely packed.  So what’s the chance of getting a spot in a caravan park? None & Buckleys.  Fortunately for us, Buckleys Retreat is about 15km North of Broome & they had plenty of room. Buckleys is a private property.

Road into Buckleys

You need to be completely self contained & kids are not allowed ( OH&S issues as there is an open dam on site & wild nomads have been known to bury small children in the red dust just before happy hour). $15/night instead of $57/night! Basically our ideal kinda site. A damned good spot!

Aforesaid Dam!

Our hosts, Matt & his sister Christine, have made us & the other 20 or 30 nomads spread about the property very welcome. This was going to be an overnighter but we stayed for four.

It’s a very quiet & peaceful camp. So much so that Jayne was even inspired to do some baking!

Fresh home baked GF Rye bread

Ahhhhhhh. Sitting next to your best buddy, the smell of freshly home baked gluten free rye bread & an espresso coffee in hand early in the morning. Does it get any better than this? (Yes, but we’re still a long way from any good surf)
Click here for the morning coffee making magic.

Broome is a busy place this time of year but we still managed to get away for a bit and drive a few kms along Cable Beach.

Lots of stuff goin on at Cable Beach near town. Very European, this hiring of deck chairs & brollies.

Deckchair, Umbrella & SUP hire are booming

Or there’s a camel ride…

One hump or two?

It’s a little bit like Noosa or the Gold Coast in town, very touristy, very expensive and very busy.

Jayne did show some interest in the history of Broome, specifically the pearl history. We dropped into Paspaley pearls & Jayne picked out a nice little necklace.

Lovely trinket, only $296,000!

How much is this one? $296,000…

Couldn’t find any earrings to match so we didn’t bother.
We went looking for dinosaur footprints out at the point but the tide wasn’t low enough. Maybe next time.

Didn’t see Dinosaur footprints here
