Today, we had a pretty lazy sunny morning. A walk along the beach. Coffee & toast. A swim at Dicky Beach. After lunch we dropped the car off at Sunshine Toyota for it’s 70K service.
As we needed to fill in a couple of hours while the car service was underway we decided on a walk to the beach, roughly about a 3.5km round trip.
Little did we know of the dangers that lurked between Sunshine Toyota & Currimundi Beach…
It was mostly a pleasant walk through a shady path winding thru paperbark bushland on the fringe of a sparkling lagoon.
Sounds romantic. Fair enough, it was, cause today is the 35th anniversary of Jayne & I meeting up at Newcastle Uni back in 1981. How time flys.
While it was a lovely walk we couldn’t help feeling that we were being watched. On closer inspection we found that almost every tree had a family or two thousand of healthy spiders casting their web and obviously living off the old & weak that traveled along this path.
My guess is they catch most of their prey in the early morning. There’s no way I’d be the first walker/cyclist to take this path at first light. I’m sure in no time you’d be bundled up in a gossamer web & tucked in behind a log somewhere out of sight. Now that I think about it, I did see a number of unidentified lumps in the undergrowth.
There was also a sign warning not to wander off the path as the area may have unexploded amunition. Evidently this regional park was used for military purposes during WWII.
I suspect this is not really the case & it’s just councils way of saving money by not spraying for spiders. If more people wandered off the path & were taken by spiders they’d have a lot more explaining to do.
There was also a huge (10cm) snake on the path as well. It looked a bit like a miniature rattle snake. Very cute. When I encouraged it to get off the path with my thong it did the sidewinder sliver type manoeuvre that you see snakes do across the sand dunes in old western movies.
Anyway, we survived today & tonight have celebrated our still being alive & in love after 35 years of whatever happened between 1981 & 2016.
Bubbles, oysters & prawns for tea. And chocolate. An early night methinks.

Congratulations you two – couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate such a milestone!
Congratulations on 35 years you two😘
