Great Surf at Last! No Bull. (Well, a bit of bull)

Happy to report that finally the right surf spot with the right conditions at the right time has been located.

Lighthouse Point on the Tasmanian West Coast (There’s actually no lighthouse there, but you can see one on the next point south. I guess that makes sense…). This spot is at the end of West Point Road.

The car park is in the middle of the top of the image above. It’s the grey spot. The first surf break is in middle of frame & about a 200m paddle over deep water. The second surf break is another 200-300m over.

With the sun shining, clear water, offshore winds, overhead waves, complete with a very lengthy paddle out, who could ask for more?

Lots of solid long left handers (these were the pick of the waves) & right handers (fast & feisty). Only about 10 surfers in total in the water & I overheard a couple of the locals say it was “time to get out of the water cause it was too danged crowded”.

Left hander on the (left) side, A-frame in the middle feathering & then breaking to left & right.

Close out set.

I surfed for over 2 hours until I could surf no more & now everything hurts a bit. I may need an ibuprofen & a little nap later.

But later, it wasn’t a nap but a lot of bull. This afternoon we had a visit from this fine specimen of a young bull

The fence post on the left is the beginning of the camping area. It was a close call but we managed to turn him around & chase him off with some vigorous thong clapping & arm waving. 20 minutes later, he’d jumped the fence again & we had to repeat the whole process. The second time he was put in a different paddock further away so hopefully there’ll be no more bull tonight.

    • Thanks Guys. I was particularly impressed with Glenn’s Great Guided Goosechase Getaway Surfaris. It laid the foundation for this fantastic session. Hope to catch up with you guys later.
