COVID & Kirra – Betwixt B’Tweed.

It’s been far too long between my mindless meandering memos. So, in an effort to help us remember where the bloody hell we’ve been, what we’ve done & when we did it, let me resume my drivel.

Having started this record of travel some time ago we placed a 10 year countdown timer on the site as we figured we’d be on the road at least that long. Our friends laughed & thought we’d kill each other long before the 10 years were up. It saddens me to see that timer now down to only 3.1 years to go. 7 down 3 to go, at least. There is just not enough time left🙁. To resolve this issue I’ve added a new timer to start counting up from the time we picked up Amander Commander🙂.

Problem solved… Time will only increase from this point🤪.

Of those first 7 years we have really only been travelling for about 3 years. A series of events kept pulling us back off the road. In between travels we did a couple of stints of aged parent caring as well as over a year hiding in Crescent Head (renovating & landscaping) when COVID first raised it’s ugly head in March 2020. So hopefully, from now on our time on the road will only increase🙄!

In July 2021 we had a feeling that COVID was going to become popular in NSW and made the decision to head North to QLD. Plus the truck needed a QLD rego check & a bit of tweaking at SLRV on the Gold Coast. We made it into QLD a couple of days before they closed the boarder due to lockdowns aplenty.

We’ve been in lockdown for about a 1/3 of our 3 week stay at Kirra Beach Tourist Park. The park is located just a couple of blocks back from the beach and backs right up onto the NSW border down one side.

Part of our “stay sane” routine has been exercise walks along the waterfront. With QLD & NSW in various stages of lockdown, it’s been pretty quiet & really pleasant for this normally busy touristy spot. Every day or so we have managed between a 4km to 8km walk. It’s been lovely but we do feel for all the people & closed businesses in the area.

The prospect of spending some time surfing in one of the premium surf spots in the country was also a plus. Sadly between lockdown & poor swell patterns this has not come to pass. My last surf was back in Newy in July🙁. Still, we’ve had many glorious walks around the area & I’ve read a lot of books.

It really has been a very restful & peaceful stay here at Kirra. Although sometimes I have to leave the truck or be quiet when Jayne is doing her director stuff. However, with no swell forecast & COVID in NSW going nuts it means we are heading further north to somewhere around the Sunshine Coast.

Another plus during our stay was that we both managed to get our 2nd AZ jab at the 10 week mark. I’d urge all to get vaccinated ASAP. Any flavour of jab that’s available. Even my watch knows what’s going on!
