Truckin and Bucketin into Geraldton

Rain? On our way to Geraldton it rained on us! This is totally unacceptable as we haven’t been rained on in our caravan travels since, well, almost the other side of Australia.

We suspect we’ve just ventured too far South too early. We’ll hang around for a bit and it things don’t improve we’ll head back up North until it does.

For a bit of fun we test drove a potential new tug vehicle today. An Iveco Daily 4×4.

Little Jayne Big Truck

It’s a very big beastie & towers over the Landcruiser as this stock photo below shows.

We haven’t decided yet, still very much in the planing stages. The idea is we’d only take the van on mostly good roads & use the truck with a small self contained cabin on the back to do the more rugged exploring of the off-roady bits & beaches.
Some of the places we’d like to visit on the next lap are just not possible to get into towing a caravan or the roads are that rough the van would be destroyed. We’ve heard stories & seen evidence of both.

We love camping but are not real fond of flappy leaking tents. So we figured if we take 4 or 5 tonnes of expedition vehicle we won’t need a tent! That’ll save us a fortune…!!!
The end result may or may not look something like the things below, or not. Early days.

Potential home away from the home away from home?

Slide Up Pop Top?

The landscape has changed dramatically over the last couple of days. Gone are the endless flat plains of red dust & mulga. We’re now into rolling hills & wildflowers.  It must be nearly spring as the wildflowers seem to be about everywhere on the sides of the road.

Off to Red Bluff next!
