Port Hedland

It’s hard to make some places look good… Coming from someone who loves the beach.

Cemetery Beach

More beach.

More of Cemetery Beach

More & more beach.

Cemetery Beach

The surf looked a bit dead at cemetery beach. Groan…

Port Hedland exports iron ore in very large quantities. This weeks schedule was about 80% China, 15% Japan and 5% Korea. More ships off the port coast than in Newy in the boom.

Another very attractive feature on the way into town is a huge pile of salt, it’s another export & advertised as a photo opportunity.

Everything is covered in red dust. Except the salt for some reason?

Fluro is the new black in town for men & women’s fashions. 4WDs (with big fluro identity markings on each side) are everywhere. Only the tourists 4WD don’t have fluro bits. So, easy to spot the tourist. This tends to make you stick out in the crowd (not). However, on the road you are virtually invisible & big fluro trucks pull out in front of you from every direction. Obviously if your truck does not have fluro all over it then it’s not there. Doesn’t exist! No reason to stop or slow down if no fluro!

Cockatoos aren’t white here, they’re kind of a dirty browny pinky colour.

However it does have an airport & that’s why we’re here. Off to Newy tomorrow for a few days.
