Crocodile Smile

After Jabiru our next stop was Mary River Wilderness Retreat. In the afternoon we took a boat up the river to see a few crocs from a safe distance. Within 500m of our camp there were a dozen or so crocs. Mostly smaller freshies but a couple of larger saltys. The park has lots of signs about no swimming & keeping at least 5m from the river bank.

The following day we went on the bigger boat “Jumping Croc” Cruise at Adelaide river. Last count, the river had over 7,000 crocs in it. This was a bit more up close & personal with the crocs as they would swim over to the boat & jump for pork chops.

One of the smaller 3 metre critters

We were very happy to be on the top deck of the boat for the whole cruise.

These creatures are absolutely amazing

Agro – Smiling for the camera

The King of the river is currently a 6.2 metre male monster called Agro. His diet is mainly anything. He was recently challenged by the 2nd biggest croc in the area & managed to maintained his title. His prize was to keep his current 20 or so girlfriends & to celebrate his win he got to eat the croc that came second.

Off to Darwin next.
