Evidently bad things happen in lots of three. I don’t subscribe to this but the evidence appears to be mounting.
Drove from Agnes Water to Yeppoon today. We stopped for a break at some historic village that was more historic than village & had the most ordinary cup of coffee of the entire trip to date.
It was not all bad as we did note that there was a great free camping area not far away & down on a river. Maybe next lap.
10 minutes back on the road & we came to a stop as there was a fire truck parked across the road about three cars in front.
It didn’t look like we were going anywhere in a hurry so Jayne took the opportunity to stretch her legs to see what the hold up was all about
Unfortunately a fellow caravaner had come to grief & flipped their van onto its side. We got there just as they were loading the wrecked van onto the back of a truck. No ambulances & no one appeared to be hurt luckily.
Hard to tell what happened. The Triton ute in the photo below was possibly the tow vehicle.
It looked a bit messy with lots of belongings flung about the place into the long grass
My guess is either an “A frame” collapse, broken axle, death wobbles or perhaps they caught an off side tyre in the soft stuff on the edge of the road. There’s a lot of soft edges up this way.
Either way it was very sad to see them collecting the remains of their scattered possessions as we drove past.
Thankfully the rest of the drive was uneventful & we’re currently set up in Yeppoon in the afternoon for a few days.
As it’s Friday the 13th we’ll be watching out for any black cats as we wander about later.
We’re off to Coles’s to buy fud soon, maybe some champagne and probably a bunch of lottery tickets.
Strangely enough Jayne seems quite keen on a catamaran trip to Great Keppel Island. Hmmmm, we’ll see…
