Kingscliff to Dicky Beach

Seems appropriate with the number of dicky bits between us (knees, backs, shoulder, neck…) that we stay at Dicky Beach for a time.

Dicky Beach is allegedly the only recreational beach in the world to be named after a shipwreck. The S.S. Dicky came to grief here in 1893.

“February 4, 1893 at 10:35am, the Dicky was grounded by the stern first on the beach between Tooway Creek and Bunduwah Creek.

The Heritage Library said with two bullock teams supplied by Tom Laxton, one of the first settlers in Caloundra near Mooloolah, and Harry Westaway, another early settler, along with the efforts of the crew, the SS Dicky was re-floated two days after it first grounded.

But their efforts were in vain as the ship washed back ashore during the night.”

Evidently, multiple efforts were made to refloat the Dicky but it became beached every time.

Sounds a bit like a dicky recovery…

Busy wet drive today

Driving in the Rain

Plenty of fresh supplies on board and ready for anything, but it’s raining.

Never enough bananas

We’re not too far away from some caravan manufacturers. If the rainy weather keeps up we may need to do a couple of factory tours to check them out. That could turn into an expensive exercise.
