Last Day in Tassie – For Now

Any day that starts with a 2 hour surf has got to be a good day.

Ann Bay – Marrawah – Last Surf

Waves were small but fun. Samantha & Glenn were both in the water as well. In effect the final “Kooks on Tour” (minus Jayne, the frothing grommet) surf in Tassie. Although this time with out all the expedition effort of a normal Tassie surf road trip. This one was at Ann Bay, a minute walk down from where we were free camping. Too easy.

Sam was pretty keen to get in the water this morning & couldn’t get her wetsuit on quick enough. This may have been partly to do with “allegedly” attempting to put it on backwards.

Kneepads at the back? Rookie mistake

I would normally not be this mean, but she has dropped in on me on a few too many waves. “Party Waves” she calls them.

Afterwards there was just enough time for a quick lunch & a final review of Jayne’s checklist to pack up the van ready for the 2.5hr drive to Devonport East to board the ferry back to the big island.

There was one moment of blind panic this morning when the cruiser keys could not be found anywhere. Thought I’d lost them. After an extensive blokey look about the place I then had a girlie look & remembered that they were still in the key safe, a lock box I use when in the surf. Doh!

So I finished packing up & said goodbye to Glenn & Sam who are in Tassie for a few more days. They were heading further down the West Coast to Granville Harbour chasing more waves. We hope to catch up with them both after Easter for more waves & good times at Crescent Head.

During the long drive to the ferry I kept myself amused by playing “Yellow Car” throughout the trip. It may be no surprise that I won for a change. Jayne usually beats me but as her seat in the cruiser was vacant (as she’s currently in Newy, for work) I won big time!

Yellow Car! – I win…

It was a pretty smooth road trip but there are a few sections of road that are marked 110kph & should probably be 90kph.

Passed thru ferry security & handed over my unsecured gas bottle & 2 weapons (speargun & handspear) and now sitting in the queue waiting to board. They did promise to give them back at the other end.

Near the front of the middle queue

Still waiting to board…

Waiting, bored…

More Queues…

A view of the far queue from the middle queue

I can see the Ferry but still queued

Spirit of Tazmazia II far away

  1. Ha! Simmo- game on! Now, I’m gonna drop in on you as much as Crocko does! Hee Hee! Tassie has been such a wonderful time with you & Jayne (I miss Jayne!!!)! We’ve covered serious ground & water! Woo hoo! In Zeehan now for some fridge TLC (ugh!) at the Caravan Park. Day trip to Granville Harbour tomorrow then… Who knows!
