Charging +/- Lots of Jayne’s Waves – Excellent!

Jayne has had numerous surfs this week. Far more than me. Sam seems to have made it her quest to ensure no surfing opportunity is missed. Although I suspect this is just how she is normally. “Awsome, Keen as…”

A big thank you to Sam for lending Jayne a wetsuit (that works) & all the coaching time. The time Sam has devoted to coaching is showing great results with Jayne now feeling more comfortable in the ocean waves than ever before. Even when there’s no surf there’s paddle/pop-up practice in the lagoon.

To be goofy, or not to be goofy, that is the question.

Since the photo above Jayne has discovered that she surfs better with her left foot forward (natural footed) as opposed to right foot forward (goofy footed). It was only a matter of time, I knew she’d work it out eventually.

Big thank you to Glenn who has been very generous with lending his mal surfboard to Jayne in spite of her best efforts to bump her foot, knee or head on it occasionally.

My focus of late has been on the more primal tribal pastimes of hunting & gathering. Someone has to feed the frothing surf crew! There have been a few successful spear fishing ventures resulting in feeds of fish.  Glenn has kept me company on a couple of these dive trips as well.

Fish cooking has been a team effort. We’ve fried some & done a few in foil (oil, coriander pepper & lemongrass) on the BBQ and Sam did some lightly coated in rice flour & shallow fried and another more exotic fish dish called Ceviche. Ceviche is a seafood dish popular in the coastal regions of the Americas, especially Central and South America. The dish is typically made from fresh raw fish cured in citrus juices, such as lemon or lime, and spiced with ají or chili peppers. Sam did it in a lime juice & a spicy salsa dressing. Yummo!

This week also presented some van “technical” issues. It looked like we had a battery/solar panel failure. After much technical tinkering troubleshooting, some power calculations, many measurements of volts & amps & the emergency use of our generator we determined that is was due to the fact that the van was parked in the shade of a tree (and possibly a fridge door being left ajar). Rookie mistake.

Charging!

Of course, all this may have been a ruse just to run the generator so as to fire up the “Cafe VanExtraOrdinaire” coffee machine. It just seemed a waste not to make a few Green Smoothies or some coffees while the Genny was running.

No abalone of late but that may change as we plan to revisit the West Coast again soon.
