Last night this guy called Liam was wandering about the campground talking up the merits of some kayak tours that he runs down the Derwent River. Jayne has talked about doing something in a kayak/canoe for ages so, the next thing you know…
(To the tune of Running Bear, kinda, probably, but it needs a bit of work)
On the banks, of Derwent River
Simon stared, a Nomad brave
Next to him, on said same river
Stood his lovely, Nomad maid
Little White Dove, (real name Jayne)
Such a lovely, sight to see
Both their minds, were full of river
They hoped their tour, would, miss, big trees…
Simon stared, at the wet suited White Dove As he held, his paddle high
When the Nomad, stared at Little White Dove They both hoped, they, would, not, die…
Crusty Nomad, & Little White Dove Had a hug, and a big sigh
Just after kayak safety instruction They both jumped in, over their heads.
And if they float, they may not die…
(Apologies to Johnny Preston -Running Bear)
Anyway the TassieBound – Derwent River Tour (Adventure Version) was a hoot. Level 2 white water rapids were quite doable for a couple of canoe wannabes that had done minimal kayak stuff in the past. All the gear was good & the Hobie brand (Lanai model) sit-on kayaks were very stable & easy to paddle. We had a great trip & stopped along the way for a pack lunch. Here on a grassy bank we enjoyed a great view, a couple of yummy wraps & a noice bit of cake. Lucky this remote area had a couple of very rare Tasmanian lavar-trees that were a welcome relief after a couple of hours of paddling. Most of the trip was easy paddling with about 8 quicker rapidy sections to get your pulse going.
At the end of the paddle (and at quickest section of white water) we had the opportunity to jump off a rock into the rapids & just float down the river for a bit to cool off.
Dan (Epic Tour Guide) & Liam (Tour Owner)

Liam has all this kayak stuff sorted & provided a great day of activity & entertainment. Have a look at www.tassiebound.com.au for more details about what else Liam does. It was well worth it.
Little White Dove warming up

Dan, our tour guide, providing very helpful instructions along the way.

Dan has competed in the top end of the kayak world & was ridiculously fit. We suspect that tomorrow will introduce a few extra aches & pains after today’s activities.

Jayne’s already having trouble lifting a cup of tea.
