Sea the Sunset at 55

Trial Harbour

While camping in Trial Harbour we went for a day trip into Corinna and took a river cruise to the coast on the Arcadia II

We finally got a go on the punt with just the landcruiser.

The boat cruise gives a lovely river view of the forests & a fairly warm 20min walk to/from the beach at the heads. It was about 29 degrees, the warmest day we’d had in a while and the calmest day for seas in the last 10 years, according to the captain.

Along the walk to the beach we discovered this “gum tree”. The local shack owners appear to have a sense of humour

The beach was absolutely covered in driftwood of all shapes & big sizes

Evidently none of the driftwood can be used as it’s protected. They make an exception for the local shack owners in an effort to keep them out of the forest looking for firewood.

There’s about a dozen shacks at the mouth of the Pieman River used as holiday & fishing bases. The only access is a very rough 4WD track or via the river.

You know you’re in the West when the sun goes down in the sea. We had been waiting for about a week to get a clear sky sunset.

We even had a birthday surf that day as well

We met some of the Trial Harbour locals. Some of them surfed with us while others were just looking for carrots.

This Pademelon had no fear

Practicing for the Easter Pademelon

He was also quite fond of Pinot Noir

I had a birthday on the 20th. So any excuse for a party.
Start of the 55th Celebrations

Samantha & Glenn (Penguintalesoz) joined in & provided some great company, wine, nibbles & heaps of firewood.

We provided some great food, wine, ABBA & fluoro…

Jayne had produced a favourite Green Curry Prawns dish as well as a banana cake so we were all particularly spoilt.

And we may have had just a bit more than a sensible amount of good wine from the Mornington Peninsula & Tasmania.

As the night progressed, things got a bit weirder, especially with ABBA playing on the outdoor speakers.

There’s a Dancing Queen in everyone of us.

As the night settled in, the fire got darker & the fluoro just got brighter.

Fluoro quoits was a popular party game as the night rolled on.

It was a super fun(d) birthday and a lot of fun(d). It was super fun(d) partly because I’m now officially known as an old pensioner, and, as such, am able to access my super fund & draw a pension. I think it also includes automatic entry into the “Grumpy Old Men” club.
